Our Commitments

Our commitment to be the best version of ourselves.

At Key Fund we are passionate about supporting the creation of resilient and successful communities where everyone feels able to participate fully in civic, economic, and social life. We believe that to achieve our mission, equity, diversity, and inclusion must be at the heart of everything we do. This is not only about diversity in our team. It is also about how we embed equity, diversity, and inclusion in what we do. This embraces how we work, who we work with and stepping up to challenge and address structural inequalities in our society.

After 20 years and with over £75 million invested we have achieved so much, but in a world where inequality is clearer than ever, we are asking ourselves ‘are we leaving anyone behind’? Like many others, we are on a journey to challenge ourselves and the status quo to ensure that we offer the right support for all our communities to thrive.

We are committed to the action we need to take, including speaking openly about our current limitations, seeking out diverse views and speaking out when we see inequality. We are determined to be the best version of ourselves and to be a pioneer in and for our sector. It is only by using all our diverse skills and experience that we can affect real change that benefits everyone.

Equity, Diversity and Inclusion Update

Our Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Working Group, made up of staff and directors met and will continue to meet every 2-3 months to keep us accountable for achieving our EDI goals. All our new starters learn about our EDI Statement and Goals and receive our Inclusive Glossary of Terms. We updated our Employee Handbook to include a Menopause and Stress and Mental Well Being Policy.

Our Board signed a Commitment to integrate EDI into all aspects of decision making. Our Board and Staff have regular training, this year we focused on privilege and power.

We surveyed our Investees and received very positive feedback on the accessibility of our investment process and we’re working on the areas highlighted for improvement. In line with our Commitments under the Diversity Forum Manifesto, we collected demographic data on our team. This is part of a sector wide push to transparently report on the extent to which social investors reflect the communities they work in.

Equal Opportunities Statement

We recognise that age, disability, sex, gender identity, pregnancy, maternity, race (which includes colour, nationality and ethnic or national origins), sexual orientation, religion or belief, and marriage or civil partnership can cause barriers to employment.
We are committed to representing the diversity of the UK within our staff, Board and Investment Panel, and are taking active steps to diversify the people we reach in our recruitment process. We are also committed to providing tailored support to our people to reflect their differentiated needs.  We want to create an inclusive environment where people feel listened to, accepted and free to challenge.
