Taking the ‘Dis’ out of Disability
Foresight North East Lincolnshire (FNE) Ltd has been operating for over two decades.
It began life as a group of enthused volunteers in 1999 helping the blind and visually impaired live more fulfilled lives, and has grown into a well-respected organisation. It now addresses the varied and complex needs of the disabled.
Taking the ‘Dis’ out of Disability
FNE operates as a limited company and a charity centred in Grimsby. It provides learning, leisure, sports and social activities for older people, people with disabilities and their families and carers, who live across the North and North East Lincolnshire – an area of high multiple deprivation.
With services in high demand, in the last year, it has helped around 2,000 people, the majority with long-term health conditions.
Its mission is to empower the disabled to create a brighter future and an enjoyable and full life.
It delivers NHS and Local Authority care contracts in the region, with a central Learning and Development Centre in Grimsby for adults, alongside youth clubs and holiday support for children.
Key Fund has invested in FNE since 2018: to fund its phenomenal growth in a sustainable and measured way, to help it through the pandemic, and more recently, to help it navigate the energy and cost-of-living crisis.
Operating from five key sites in the community, in 2022 Key Fund invested a £100k loan and £40k grant from the NIF Energy Resilience to make its properties more energy efficient, with air source heat pumps and solar panels.
This move ensures FNE can keep their service prices reasonable, as well as help safeguard 18 jobs in the organisation.
